Study for your ABRSM grade 5 music theory exam with Susan Leigh MA LRSM LLCM FISM, a friendly and experienced teacher who has taught students of all ages for over twenty years.

Your patience, encouragement and teaching has taken me from first trying to get a note out of a saxophone, through all the grades, including music theory to a diploma! You have been so lovely to have as a teacher. I genuinely appreciate you.

I have always loved teaching music theory and over the years I have guided and coached countless students through their ABRSM grade five theory exam. Find some of their lovely comments halfway down this page and more information about what I offer below.

Thanks very much for all you have done for me! You’ve been a great teacher – couldn’t have come so far without you!

I recommend a half hour initial online lesson with absolutely no obligation to continue. If you are happy to work with me after that, we can arrange a schedule of future lessons.

  • Online lessons using Zoom or Skype
  • Tailored program at a pace to suit you
  • Little experience of music theory needed as the syllabus is taught by topic rather than grade. Each topic is introduced from beginner level up to grade 5. Perfect as long as you can play an instrument and read music notation.
  • Free access to my online Codebreaker Five music pack (if a block booking of scheduled lessons is made). Codebreaker is full of quizzes to test your knowledge on grade 5 theory topics. Students unlock musical codes to progress through the levels and the codes are all musical terms needed for the exam (so a great way to learn them!).

The online music theory games are an excellent way of progressing through the different grades up to grade 5. They are a ‘MAJOR’ way of enabling you to ‘AUGMENT’ the knowledge gained through studying music theory which is very well taught and an ideal ‘TONIC’ for virtual lessons during lockdown. The pace of the theory lessons are such that you can fully understand the principles behind each topic before moving forward to the next and are in no way ‘DIMINISHED’ by being given by video call. Susan is the ‘PERFECT’ teacher who is fun to work with and I am grateful to you for getting me this far.
