Hands up who hasn’t made a mistake!

“Your best teacher is your last mistake”

Out of all the musicians in the world there can’t be a single one who hasn’t made an error or stumble. I certainly didn’t have my hand up!

How do you deal with mistakes? Do you treat them as a positive and something you can learn from, or do you tend to dwell on the negative and blow them out of proportion?

Sometimes it can help just to get some perspective.

Have you ever actually counted how many notes there are in the piece of music you are learning? If you make a mistake think to yourself, ‘well I actually played two hundred and fifty six notes correctly and only ten wrong’. If you really want to take your mind off your error then go and work it out as a percentage!

So let’s get some inspiration from some famous people …!

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

Albert Einstein

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is continually fearing that you’ll make one.”

Elbert Hubbard

“All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes”

Winston Churchill

“I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Thomas Edison

“A man’s mistakes are his portals of discovery”

James Joyce
